Discounts & Fees Display
TapGoods PRO · Orders, Invoices, Customer-Facing Views & Storefront
What Changed & Why
We updated how discounts, fees, and item rates display across every customer-facing area in TapGoods PRO — including the Order Form, Rental Summary, Invoices, Emails, and Storefront.
Previously, discount settings could produce different layouts depending on where a customer viewed their quote or invoice, causing confusion and subtotals that didn't match the per-unit rates shown. We also fixed how Set Total Cost pricing appeared — it was incorrectly divided by quantity in the Rate column, producing inaccurate per-unit figures.
The Bottom Line
Every customer-facing area now shows the same consistent layout. The Rate column always reflects the true unit rate — never a discounted or divided value.
How It Was
Discount display was set at the Global level and Order level — but the Order-level options varied depending on how the Global setting was configured.
When Global discounts were Enabled, the Order form showed three options:
- Display discount (strikethrough) on Subtotals
- Display discounts on Rate column
- Do not display discounts
When Global discounts were Disabled, only the first two options appeared.
Old behavior: two separate discount display toggles on the Order form
The core problem: regardless of the option selected, all produced different results across the Order Form, Rental Summary, Invoices, Emails, and Storefront — leading to inconsistent subtotals when customers compared per-unit rates.
What's New
1. Rate Column — Renamed & Fixed
The column previously labeled Price is now labeled Rate. It will no longer display discounted prices. Customers always see the base unit rate — so Rate × Quantity will consistently match the Subtotal before any discount or fee adjustments are applied separately.
Set Total Cost pricing is also fixed: instead of dividing a total cost by quantity and showing a fractional rate, the Rate and Subtotal columns now both display the correct, unaltered total cost.
2. Fee Column — Now Shows Exact Amounts
The Fee column next to each line item now displays the exact dollar amount of any fees applied to that item, rather than a generic indicator. This pairs clearly with the new Discount column so customers can see every component of their subtotal.
3. Three Consistent Discount Display Options
Discount display is controlled at the Global level (Account Settings) and can be overridden at the Order level. There are now three options — and each one produces the same layout everywhere: Order Form, Invoice, Email, and Storefront.
Option 1: Hide Discounts
Discounts are applied to the order but not shown explicitly to the customer. Subtotals reflect the discounted amount.
- Subtotals display an asterisk (*)
- The Inventory Discounts & Fees table includes the note: "Discounts and Fees are included in subtotals."
- The full discount amount is visible in the Inv. Disc. & Fees summary table
Example: Rate: $52.00 / 1m | Qty: 10 | SubTotal: $494.00 *
Hide Discounts: subtotal shows discounted amount with strikethrough on original price
Option 2: Strikethrough on Subtotal
The original price is shown with a strikethrough next to the discounted subtotal — the classic "was / now" format customers recognize.
- Rate column still shows the base rate (unchanged)
- Subtotal column shows: $520.00 (crossed out) → $494.00
- Consistent across all customer-facing areas
Example on Display: Rate: $25.00 / 1d | Qty: 10 | Subtotal: $262.50 → $237.50
Strikethrough on Subtotal — Display View
Strikethrough on Subtotal — Invoice view
Strikethrough on Subtotal — Storefront view
Option 3: Discounts Column
A dedicated Discount column appears next to the Fee column, showing the exact discount amount per line item. Customers can clearly see the base rate, any fees, any discounts, and the resulting subtotal — all in one row.
- Rate: base unit price (unchanged)
- Fee column: exact fee amount
- Discount column: exact discount amount (e.g., –$26.00)
- Subtotal: reflects both fee and discount adjustments
Example: Rate: $10.00 / 1d | Qty: 3 | Fee: $3 | Discount: –$6.00 | Subtotal: $27.00
Discounts Column: fee and discount amounts visible per line item. Discounted rate shown cleanly without confusion
Where Settings Live
Discount display is configured in two places:
| Setting Level | Location | What It Controls |
| Global Default | Account Settings → Display Settings → Discounts | Default option applied to all new orders |
| Order-Level Override | Order Form → Display Settings → Discounts | Override the global default for a specific order |
Global setting: Account Settings → Display Settings → Discounts toggle
Order-level override: three discount display options in the Order form Display Settings
Tip
Order-level settings always take priority over the global default. Use order-level overrides for VIP clients, custom invoices, or any situation where you want a different presentation than your standard setup.
Consistency Across All Customer-Facing Areas
Whichever option you select, the same layout now appears everywhere your customer sees their order:
| Area | Now Consistent |
| Order Form (Display view) | ✓ Yes |
| Rental Summary | ✓ Yes |
| Invoices | ✓ Yes |
| Customer Emails | ✓ Yes |
| Storefront | ✓ Yes |
Storefront Update
The outdated secondary billing display at the bottom of Storefront order views has been removed. Only one billing section now appears, matching your selected discount display setting.
Quick Reference: What Each Option Shows
| Display Option | Rate Column | Discount Column | Subtotal | Footer Note |
| Hide Discounts | Base rate | Hidden | Discounted amount + asterisk (*) | "Discounts and Fees are included in subtotals" |
| Strikethrough on Subtotal | Base rate | Hidden | Original → Discounted | None |
| Discounts Column | Base rate | Exact discount amount | Net after fee + discount | None |
No Action Required
Your existing discount setting has been migrated to the closest matching new option. We recommend reviewing Account Settings → Display Settings to confirm the option looks right for your business, and previewing an existing order to see the updated layout.
