Converting Images to Ensure Compatibility with TapGoods
HEIC images are not currently supported by the TapGoods photo importing tool.
If you have been using a recent Apple device (iPhone 7 or newer on iOS 11 or later) to capture new product images, it's likely that you have been using the HEIC mode.
High Efficiency Image Codec is the default capture mode for Apple devices, resulting in photos being automatically stored in that format. However, in order to upload these images, they need to be converted to JPEG (method #1) or retaken in the appropriate capture mode (method #2).
To check your Apple device's Camera settings, navigate to Settings App > Camera > Formats.
Method 1: Converting Existing HEIC Photos to JPEG
On a Mac, perform the following series of steps:
1. Navigate to where your HEIC images are stored. If they are spread across several locations, consolidate your images in a single location on your computer to save yourself a lot of time.
2. Highlight all of them and right-click on one of the highlighted HEIC files.
3. Navigate to Open With, then select Preview.app.
4. Click the first photo on the left-hand panel of the Preview app and then the SHIFT key. Click the last photo in the list, then release shift. This will highlight all of the images for mass changes. You can also hit Command + A to Select All in the Preview window.
5. Navigate to File > "Export Selected Images..."
6. Select the Directory (folder) on your Mac where you want the converted images to be output. In this case, I want them on the Desktop.
7. Click Options, setting Format to JPEG.
8. Click Choose. Your photos will now be converted to JPEG and dropped into the folder you specified in Step 7.
Method 2: Set Camera Capture Mode to Most Compatible and Re-take the Photos
If you would prefer to just re-take the photos over converting existing image files to the proper format, perform the following steps:
1. Navigate to Settings App > Camera > Formats.
2. Switch Camera Capture mode to Most Compatible.
3. Once you've switched your Camera Capture mode to Most Compatible, take your photos again. The new photos taken after the change in Settings will automatically be in the proper format needed for compatibility with the TapGoods photo importing tool.
Useful tip: If you're not sure what file format your pictures are, you can enable showing the file extension in both macOS and Windows. This will allow you to see what type of file each image is at a glance. On a Mac, this is enabled by going to Finder.app > Preferences and turning on "Show all filename extensions."
