Troubleshooting & Common Questions
If the TapGoods WordPress plugin isn't working as expected, follow the steps below in order. Many issues are resolved by one of these solutions.
Check Your Plugin Version and Update
Try this if: Running an outdated version is the most common cause of issues. If you haven't updated recently, this should be your first step.
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.
- Find TapGoods in the list and check the version number shown.
- Email support@tapgoods.com with your version number to confirm you're on the latest version. If an update is available, the team will send it to you.
- Once updated, refresh your site and test again.
For installation instructions, see: How to Install the TapGoods WordPress Plugin
Clear Your Cache
Try this if: You've made changes, such as updating settings or re-syncing inventory, but they're not showing up on the frontend.
If you're using a caching plugin (such as WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, or LiteSpeed Cache) or a service like Cloudflare, a stale cache is often the culprit.
- Clear the cache in your caching plugin or service.
- Refresh your site and test again.
Check for Theme/Plugin Conflicts
Try this if: The plugin was working before and stopped after you installed or updated another plugin or theme.
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.
- Deactivate all plugins except TapGoods, then test your site.
- If the issue is resolved, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you identify the conflict.
- If switching to a default WordPress theme (such as Twenty Twenty-Four) resolves the issue, your theme may be the cause.
Generate a New API Key
Try this if: Your inventory is not syncing correctly. Your API key may be expired or invalid.
- Log in to your TapGoods account and go to Admin > WordPress Settings > API Keys.
- Click Add and generate a new API key, setting the Access Type to Read.
- Copy and save the key somewhere safe. It will only be displayed once.
- In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to TapGoods > Connection and replace the existing API key with the new one.
- Connect the new key and re-sync.

Reset the Plugin to Default Settings
Try this if: You've worked through all the steps above and the issue still isn't resolved.
Please note: This will permanently delete all your synced inventory and categories in WordPress. This action cannot be undone.
- In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to TapGoods > Connection.
- Click the Reset to Default link.
- Once the reset is confirmed, re-enter your API key and sync your inventory.

Common Questions
How do I get started building in WordPress? We recommend using a theme that works well with the TapGoods plugin right out of the box. Both Movedo and Uncode are great options and each is a one-time purchase.
How do I know the sync is working? Keep the sync screen open and navigate to your website in a new tab. Go to the page where you've added the inventory shortcode [tapgoods-inventory] and check that items are loading. If you don't see them right away, refresh the page every few minutes. Sync time varies based on the size of your inventory — see below for details.
How long does the sync take? Sync time depends on the size of your inventory. A smaller catalog of 50-100 items or fewer may only take 30 seconds to few minutes, while larger catalogs with thousands of items can take up to 4 hours. If items still aren't showing after that window, or if you receive errors, try the troubleshooting steps above.
How many items can the sync support? The plugin can support up to 10,000 items from TapGoods.
How often does it update my inventory? The plugin automatically syncs every 24 hours from the last synchronization. If no manual sync is performed, it will run on its own 24 hours after the last one.
Can I control which items or categories are displayed on my WordPress site? Yes to the items, it only synced the items that are turned on for Storefront in TapGoods. The categories on the other hand will always sync over. Note: deleting things in WordPress does not delete it in TapGoods. Once the next sync happens, those “deleted” things will reappear.
Why is my cart not working or linking back to TapGoods correctly? There are two common causes for this. First, make sure your Shop + Cart page is toggled on in TapGoods. Second, confirm that all of your redirect domain settings are configured correctly. See Configuring Your Shop with Redirect Domains for everything you need to have set up.
Does the plugin work with SEO? Yes, the plugin is fully compatible with Yoast SEO, so you can customize SEO settings for all your items or for specific ones.
Do my TapGoods Shop + Cart settings carry over to WordPress? Most settings do not carry over. The one exception is the Override Catalog URL, which is a required setting that ensures your TapGoods cart correctly links back to your WordPress site.
What if I want more customization than the plugin offers? We understand that some businesses need more than what the plugin provides by default. We work with a developer who is knowledgeable about our API and has helped many of our clients further customize their WordPress sites. Reach out to support@tapgoods.com for more information.
